Describes a tree topology network with an example
- A Tree topology network, as the name suggests, resembles a tree like structure.
- It is an extension of the star topology. A tree topology is nothing but a number of star topology networks connected in a hierarchical structure, with multiple levels.
A sample tree topology network is given in the diagram below:
- In this diagram, you can see 3 star networks at the lowest level, with another central device at the next level, connecting these 3 star topology networks together. Each of the lower level networks could typically belong to individual departments of an organization/university, with the next level central device serving for inter department communication.
- Tree topologies are common in Enterprises, Campuses, Universities etc.
